In Soviet Russia, Links Read You!

by Matt B

I know that I have not been great with the “weekly” links lately, so I can no longer call them “weekly” links. Regardless, here are the best of the best from personal finance blogs over the last week.

Stephanie at Poorer Than You wrote Learning to Love Generics
Although it is not a long post, Stephanie brings to light the sometimes dismissed idea that store brand or generic brand food actually tastes as good or sometimes better than the “leading brand”.

Catherine Shaffer at Wise Bread wrote Ten Great Charities that Deserve Your Dollars This Year
I love this post. Many wonderful, little-known charities are featured here, and a rundown of their missions and showing where your money goes make this a great post.

Trent at The Simple Dollar wrote The Hidden Costs of Your Job
This article is great and hits close to home, as much of it’s content includes thoughts I have nearly every day on my way to, at or on my way home from work. If you want to see the money that you are pissing away unconsciously at work, read this one.

Miranda at Yielding Wealth wrote How Much are We Saving with the Prius?
The Simple Dollar had an article last week about why he ended up buying the brand new Prius (financially speaking), and this piece would act as the perfect follow-up. Miranda is speaking purely of gas savings, but illustrates it very well and backs up her purchase decision with solid, concise information.

Rachel Strong wrote a guest piece at The Digerati Life entitled The Dave Ramsey Budget: Budgeting Tips for Successful Savers
For those of you who have no inkling about Dave Ramsey and his tactics for effective saving, this article is a great place to start.

Finally, I’d like to personally congratulate Ramit who runs I Will Teach You to be Rich.
Ramit’s book was released on Monday, and shares the same name as his website. I have yet to read it, but I can not wait to get my hands on it!! I have contacted Ramit on a few seperate occasions and he could not have been nicer and more helpful.
